Inquiry costs

The Inquiry is funded by the Scottish Government, but is independent of government in its conduct, investigation and findings. The majority of Inquiry staff are on assignment to the Inquiry from the Scottish Government, but operate independently. 

Lord Scott, the Inquiry Chair, has a legal duty to avoid any unnecessary costs. 

The Inquiry aims to publish its expenditure on a quarterly basis. The figures below include the costs of the Inquiry since its setting-up date on 9 December 2025 and are published in consultation with the Scottish Government.
